Step back in time at the world-famous, open-air museum, telling the story of life in North East England during the 1820s, 1900s, 1940s and 1950s. Beamish is a working museum, set in 300-acres of County Durham countryside. Take part in a range of activities including, a walk through a drift coal mine, board games and lots of exciting events planned throughout the year.

Set in the beautifully landscaped grounds of Kynren, a stone’s throw from Auckland Castle, Bishop Auckland, Kyren takes guests on a spectacular journey through two thousand years of history, myth and legend, as we join young Arthur on his epic quest.
Locomotion
Get up close to incredible engineering feats in Shildon, where you can see highlights of the national collection of railway vehicles, in the world’s first railway town. Take a look at the museum’s fascinating collection of railway exhibits, including the original Stockton and Darlington Railway Carriage, the original Locomotion No.1 and the original and replica Sans Pareil.

High Force is England’s largest and most impressive waterfall, with a spectacular drop of 70 feet (21m) into a plunge pool below. A gentle woodland walk leads you to view this spectacular sight at the base of the falls. High Force is surrounded by the stunning countryside of Upper Teesdale and is situated in the North Pennines, making it an ideal place to stop for a picnic and a base for exploring Teesdale by car, bike or on foot.
Derwent Reservoir offers an opportunity for tranquil walks, and is located near Consett, on the border between County Durham and Northumberland. The reservoir offers a thousand acres of beautiful clean and open water, which has become a popular destination for days out and sports, from walking, cycling and running to sailing. A great base for a day out in the countryside, with a wooden play park, a cafe and gift shop.

Brancepeth Castle Golf Club is located near the famous, and historic cathedral city of Durham, in the pleasant, leafy village of Brancepeth. With a course spanning around the ancient castle and providing a range of golf activities, including a driving range, golf simulator and an 18 hole golf course.
Located just outside of the historic city of Durham, Ramside Golf Club offers 2 18 hole courses with stunning views of the surrounding countryside. The Cathedral and Prince Bishops’ courses are open to members and non-members. The views across the course are extensive, reaching as far as the Angel of the North.
An exceptional 18-hole parkland golf course is positioned within beautiful countryside. With a choice of five tee positions for each hole, it is one of the longest golf courses in the UK from the gold tees. The extensive drainage results in no winter greens or tees, making it possible for golf to be a winter pastime too.
